Mark Richt Camp Lands Two Commits

 Gilbert Johnson

Georgia had been looking for a little momentum for the class of 2014 and they got it on Saturday. Georgia had 5 commits entering today’s Mark Richt camp, but came away with two more that did not even have an offer entering the day. Gilbert Johnson earned an offer after his impressive outing and it did not take long for him to pull the trigger. The 6’4 190lb WR from Miami, FL committed on the spot to the Georgia Bulldogs giving them 6 commits.

Johnson is a big WR target that can go get the football. He has only been playing football for a couple of years so he does have some raw areas, but the kid has the potential to be great. His body type reminds me of Fred Gibson but he plays much more like Marlon Brown physical wise. He has great ball skills in the air and also has good hands catching the football. Johnson does not only excel on the football field, but also on the basketball court where he is very good with the round-ball. Johnson is UGA’s second WR commit for the 2014 class. Johnson has limited video highlights but scroll to the 2:00 minute mark to see a TD grab by him below.

Another big story leading into the day was whether or not Jake Edwards would receive that “dream offer” from Georgia. The big OG prospect from Heard County put on an impressive outing and earned that offer. Like Johnson, it did not take long for him to make up his mind where he wanted to play football after high school. He also committed to the Bulldogs giving them 7 commits for the class of 2014.

Edwards is a physical offensive guard with a high motor. He prides himself on finishing blocks and also getting to the second level for blocks. As you can see in his video below, Edwards is another “nasty” offensive lineman that generates a ton of pancakes. Edwards and Brandon Kublanow are going to be a great duo at the OG/C position at the University of Georgia.

QB: Jacob Park

I just love offensive linemen  who enjoy beating the hell out of defenders. And tall rangy wide receivers that fight for the ball.
