UGA Kicker Arrested

.

Marshall Morgan was arrested last weekend for BUI.

University of Georgia sophomore placekicker Marshall Taylor Morgan, 19, was arrested Saturday, June 29, on charges of boating under the influence at Lake Sinclair by Georgia Department of Natural Resources rangers.DNR Ranger Cpl. Lynn Stanford said the arrest came as part of the department’s Operation Dry Water initiative, held every year in conjunction with the Fourth of July holiday.

This year, the iniative includes air-to-lake surveillance to identify suspect boats.

“Sgt. Bo Kelly was in one of the helicopters we had in the air and was directing boats on the water to respond,” Stanford said.

According to a report from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, Morgan was processed at 7:39 p.m. on June 29 and charged with operating a watercraft under the influence of alcohol and towing a skier without an observer onboard. Property bonds were set at $1,556 and $168, respectively.

According to Stanford, Morgan was one of a group of six “athletic-looking guys” and three girls staying at a location off Cold Branch Road; names of the others were not taken because they were not in violation of any laws.

Would Marshall not also receive some sort of charge for being under the influence of alcohol as a minor?

I got tagged for towing a tuber in a no wake zone doing no wake speeds.  Who knew that was illegal?  Boating laws are weird.  I took (stupidly) a field sobriety test and was let go, but my tuber was almost arrested for public intoxication since she blew over the legal limit.  My point - I grew up on the lake and the DNR is very serious about enforcing boating laws for good reason.  It was the only time I can remember were ignorance almost cost me dearly.

Damn kids. Chances are if he had the spotter in the boat for the skier he would have never been stopped. He missed too many last year anyway. Maybe someone else will step up and take over. How many of these guys get stopped for running stop signs, having a tail light out ect, ect. Geeeeeez

For the most part accepting the "responsibility" of becoming an Scholar Athlete also means you give up most of your opportunities to be a regular college kid.  How many non athlete scholars have been arrested for the same or similar that we never hear about.

Take care of that leg Patrick Beless. You have a job for the first game or two Maybe Thomas Pritchard from Louisville can get it done.Anyone know if Collin Barber can handle placekicking chores? We might need him.

@davidmaldridge I believe he was charged with BUI because he blew over a .02 and was a minor.  If he was over 21 they probably let him off with a warning since it sounds like he blew under the legal limit of .08.  Depending on what happened at the station he may be able to plea it down to a lesser charge.

Re-phrase - it was one of the few times were I didn't think I was doing anything wrong and I almost ended up in jail.

Really? Well in that case can you please kick him in the rear for me? Not for drinking, but for drinking outside, on a lake, near a holiday weekend. The cops are not dumb, son.

We beat Florida because we had the mentality that we couldnt trust our kicker. This could benefit us against Clemson.
