Lamont Gaillard, 6-4 315 DL from Fayetteville, NC has committed to the University of Georgia. Gaillard is a 5-star prospect according to 247Sports and ESPN.com
Gaillard is a big time pickup for the Bulldogs on the defensive line and another top North Carolina prospect that Georgia has stolen out of their backyard. Gaillard is very impressive when watching film on him. He has the ability to play the nose or the 3-4 end for the Bulldogs. He explodes out of his stance, stays low, and is extremely hard to block one-on-one. He has a strong lower body for leverage and also uses his hands very well to shed blockers. His top end speed is not great but his explosion and foot quickness is as impressive of any film I have seen in this class. Impressive as he was on film as a defensive lineman, he was just as impressive on the offensive line. Gaillard plays offensive guard on his high school team and he was outstanding at pulling and getting to the second level. He is also a punishing blocker and finishes very nicely. Gaillard definitely has the opportunity to come in and contribute as a freshman for the Bulldogs.
Gaillard has had the Georgia Bulldogs in the lead since he eliminated the Florida Gators earlier this summer. The only thing that has postponed his commitment to the Bulldogs was his mother getting the chance to be there with him in Athens when he pulled the trigger. After cancelling and rescheduling his trip a couple times, his mother was able to make the trip down to Georgia this weekend and he committed to the Bulldogs.
Lamont Gaillard becomes the 2nd commitment at the DL position and the 16th overall for the Georgia Bulldogs.
Welcome to Bulldawg Nation. Looking forward to seeing your senior year highlights this season, and I hope your high school team has a great season. Will be looking towards February when you sign that LOI, and then when you get to campus to lay down the law.
I watched his film last night and agree precisely with your analysis, Baller. Gaillard doesn't have good top-end speed, like Jenkins did when he hustled. But I could care less.
He's fast, quick, powerful and explosive everywhere it counts. And his pad level is really good. Already.
Wilson is really doing a great job. This is the way it should be every year with DL, yet we've had so many years in the past where we were thin, or even skunked.
The recruiting support staff must be doing a better job as well, better than in the past. We seem more organized. The whole operation seems to be operating up another notch. And that's just what we needed.
Kudos to the coaching staff for landing this stud. He is the most impressive DL (on film) that I have seen in a long time. Do ya'll remember last year when everyone was raving about M. Adams? There is absolutely no comparison. Gaillard is heads and shoulders above Adams. Welcome to the Dawg Nation, Lamont!!!!
