After a closed practice on Saturday which preceded the annual Fan Picture Day, and an off day on Sunday, the Dawgs were back at it Monday at the Woodruff Practice Fields. In full pads, they began what will be their final week before the official first game week of the 2013 season begins. I was there to bring you some tidbits, and of course those photos you dream about all day long…
As usual, the first three periods were open to the media, where fundamental drills were the main dish served.
Now for the goods!!

Coach Will Friend has stepped it up this week.
Good to see Jay Rom back in red (ankle). He appeared to be in real pain last week.
Here’s your daily dose of Aaron Murray handing the ball to Todd Gurley.
Coach Richt in a jacket. In August.
Quayvon Hicks will be easily recognized with his “Predator face mask” this fall.
Keith Marshall. Did he get a haircut?
Shaq Wiggins (6) telling Brendan Langley (4) how many times he will pick off Aaron Murray on Wednesday’s scrimmage.
Sheldon Dawson continues to be in non-contact for due to his sprained shoulder.
Ryne Rankin and Reggie Carter are warriors.
Coach Olivadotti doesn’t get Ramik Wilson’s (51) joke.
Check out that club on Leonard Floyd’s repaired hand.
Floyd looks really big on the line. I mean, really, really big.
Also in the “club club” is freshman Davin Bellamy.
Chris Conley still in green (shoulder), but did not look slowed down one bit.
De’Andre Johnson (57) getting some action on the D-line this afternoon.
Though it was cool out, the boys were still getting after it.
The mystery of Marshall Morgan continues.
Todd Gurley looking good as he sprints through an obstacle.
Running backs coach Bryan McClendon has to love what he is working with these days.
Keith Marshall getting after it through the gauntlet.
Todd Gurley breaks through as well.
And as does JJ Green.
Watts Dantzler getting adequately hydrated before he hits someone.
As always, my pleasure covering practice should certainly translate into your pleasure following practice. We’re close, folks. Very, very close.

What's with all the shoulder injuries? I don't remember this many before. It doesn't seem like Matthews has been able to rep much at all. Clemson secondary is pretty beat up too. I wonder how many passing TD's we are going to see Saturday night?
Logan great pics. How's that writing class coming? I hope you are wearing your Bulldawg Illustrated t-shirt. My youngest son is a senior and had to take 3 finance classes this semester and is not happy at all.
The secondary is a major concern. We are extremely inexperienced and now the injuries are just incredibly frustrating. I hated losing Wilkerson because he looked really good in the spring game and JHC missing this game against a really good passing team could be a MAJOR factor in the outcome of this game.
I was already worried about this secondary before the injuries and now it has gotten really bad. Matthews needs as many reps as he can get and obviously he's a great talent and will be a great player for us but a true freshmen who won the FS job months ago tells you what lack of talent/depth we have at the FS position.
If we lose Dawson or Swann due to injury for any amount of time we will be in deep trouble. I hope JHC realizes how much he has not only let his self down but let his team down by getting suspended. Talent wise he's probably as good as any defensive player we have and I think he's going to have a break out year but this game is the one game where I think we need him most and he won't be able to suit up.
Also, I haven't heard anything about Deas or Bowman which to me is not a good sign as these two have been in the program for some time and are scholarship players which doesn't bode well. It seems like the only guys who will see the field at safety against Clemson is Trey, Fluker and Moore and two of them have been hampered by injuries. a lot of reasons for concern in the secondary.
Long time reader, first time poster. How long until we are really worried about our secondary missing all these reps? Talk me off the ledge!
Logan, I like you stuff so much, that I actually bothered to sign into my twitter and follow you. Trust me, that doesn't happen often :)
Looking good Logan, keep it up as the Heart Beat Starts. Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump Thump ThumpThumpThumpThump Gooooooo Dawgs.

More than one member of the secondary has actually said that the "big, bruising" running backs may be causing the injuries while being tackled. Kind of good to hear, but not against our own guys!
The writing class is great, so far. We have only skimmed the surface, but it seems we are going to have a crazy, busy semester full of all kinds of good stuff.
Rule #1 in writing class, however, NO MORE LOGOS OF ANY KIND. We have to be completely unbiased in there. I had to go buy a whole new wardrobe....
Thanks for your dedication, and I am glad you decided to chime in!
The injury situation is scary, but Richt has always been overly cautious about playing kids in practice/scrimmages building up to a season opener. I am willing to bet if you asked all the players with dinged up shoulders and pulled hamstrings if they were good to go, the majority would tell you they could play tomorrow.
It's frustrating because Richt is overly cautious, and he refuses to give any info of substance to the media about the injuries. He will be meeting with us tomorrow after practice, and you bet I, along with several other media members will be asking him for the details. Just don't hold your breathe on getting much out of him.
It's not good but everyone has injuries. The good thing is that the injuries are relative minor.

Nice!! And thank you. What's your twitter so I can be sure to follow follow back y'all??
Hmmmm Matthews is a true freshman not practicing at all and rumor mill says he reaggravated whatever he was nursing....Fluker and Moore have been limited...the only healthy, eligible safeties are Norman and Deas. If only it was a matter of CMR being cautious but guys not repping who are in their first year in the system or have had minimal experience is bad bad bad. Grantham has to be wishing for a waiver wire.....
