It would have been entirely too much to ask for the NCAA to have admitted a mistake when it decided that recently the wronged Marine, Steven Rhodes, is eligible immediately at Middle Tennessee without penalty. Instead, the organization that declares its mission “is to be an integral part of higher education and to focus on the development of our student-athletes” tried to spin the its fumbled ruling and “continued review” (in the face of national ridicule) into a favorable assessment of its evaluation process.
The NCAA did an about face in regards to Steven Rhodes only after public out cry and pressure. I'm glad they retracted - overturned their earlier ruling, but common sense and logic states this should have been the ruling from the get go.
Kudos to the NCAA for at least coming to their senses on this one, but I mean, it shouldn't have any had to have been debated by and taken this long to come to that conclusion.
Congrats to Steven Rhodes and Middle Tennessee. Hope he has a great season and 4 years in college. Thank you Mr. Rhodes for your service to your country.
