Maxwell Award Watch List candidate: #UGA RB Todd Gurley had 12 rushes for 154 yards and 2 TD against Clemson
Tell me this.....were up 21-14 with the ball and Murray fumbles. If he doesn't fumble we go to half 21-14 or 28-14 and getting ball to start 2nd half. Instead we go to half tied. Also, if Murray doesn't throw interception at end of 1st half, we go to half with 24-21 or 28-21 lead.When coming into this game, we knew we had a young defense with possibly our best defensive player suspended for the opener. We also knew our offense would have to carry us for a little while.......If your one of the best offenses in the country, you can't go 6 straight possessions with negative yards and expect the young defense to continually make stops. The Georgia defense held Clemson to 247 or so yards th last 3 quarters of the game. Take away 2 TDs passes and we contained their passing game.
I give the defense props for the way they played. No blown coverages,
Hey Guys...I just got on today, don't want to be a downer. But, my biggest disappointment was not the loss, even if we won I would have been disappointed, b/c....
We didn't play with any passion, I told my wife I don't see any leadership like we had last year. Maybe b/c the guys are still thinking to much. They looked flat and in the head lights, all of our D on a lot of plays, and the O-line. Where is that motivated leader on D, I just didn't see it.
@bigredballer We will be looking great at DB come next year.
@bigredballer Thanks for your hard work BRB
@bigredballer just saw the list and I must say thats just Crazy!
@PTCDawg I don't know the record......but between the 3 threads yesterday we had 2,264 overall comments!!!
@dawgathon he played awesome...super impressed
They will be emailed tonight with standings posted tomorrow /also in a post. Ill have the games this coming week posted also
@bigredballer No problems with the way the D played. The O Line is a different story.
@bigredballer d played good. i was proud of the way they played. we knew what the game was going to be. unfortunately we were the team that made more mistakes. You cant do that in those type of games. we will learn and improve. still a good team
@bigredballer Clemson had 6 scoring drives and 7 punts. Brand new D and they hold one of the most prolific offenses in the country to scoring on less than half of their possessions in their own stadium. Who would have guessed that before the game started?? Season average yards per game last year was 512 and they held them to 467. And yet there are still folks who think the D was a problem last night, Given the circumstances I thought they did a very solid job. Lot of upside to that group!!
@dawgathon Same. Let Dawson and Langley play the outside.
@JMcKinneydawg Langley is way better at CB than I imagined. Gurley increased his Heisman stock. JHC is off of suspension.
@dawgdays I agree about the passion, as a whole. Who are our leaders on this team. Downside of having a young D
Also, we were playing reaction football on defense, with no discipline on assignments, and we couldn't break blocks on the edge/perimeter. They ate us up on the outside, a lot to do with young db's, an no game changing LB's who read plays before they happen (miss Tree & Jarvis, Shawn Williams and Baccarri). Hopefully this group grows up quick on D. Also, hope Will F. stabilizes the O-Line, they need to get violent. Clemson was violent, we were very business like. Gurley rushes for twice as many yards if the O-line steps up and Bobo learns how to read schemes better and change our tempo up to keep other teams off guard. Why no hurry-up as well. We do well in two minute drills.
@dawgdays Need a Shawn Williams type, and we don't have it. Langley, Trey or Wiggins could eventually become that type of guy. Meanwhile, JJ, Swann, Garrison or Herrerra need to step up. But, they aren't apt to become that Rah Rah guy.
@dawgdays Gurley played with a lot of passion, even hurt.
Did you see him trying to lead, motivate and fire up the guys after he got hurt?
I think both Malcolm Mitchell getting hurt early as well as Gurley getting dinged up and taking to the locker room sucked a lot of air out of our sails too.
I don't think there was a lack passion or heart though.
@dawgdays We had 7 brand new starters on D and Clemson punted more often than they scored and you think the D came up short somehow?
@PTCDawg not a bunch..Oline didn't hold up long enough.
@RuggerDoogie You are ahead of me by one; so, it could be worse Rugger.
@PTCDawg It is the record for Bulldawg Illustrated....not sure how many LHB had in one day.....but it is the record so far at BI
@dentaldawg Gates and Houston got whipped good. Houston I can see why but Gates is worrisome. He's a great Guard but not so good at tackle. The speed rushers kill Gates.
I think our problem last year was that we had no leadership. If we would of had someone on defense step up besides Williams and Jones then we would of been a lot better. If that defense gave up 465 yards last night and 38 points.......the defense last year would have given up 48 points and 550 yards. I think our defenses performance last ynigjt was a lot better than 75% or our defenses performances last yr
@dawgdays Also need a Ben Jones type leader on the line.
Our playaction roll outs were very successful. 3-3 for some big yardage. One to JSW, one to Wooten, and one to Rome. That is what I'm talking about w taking pressure off oline. These plays were 10 yards plus plays and easy throws
@bigredballer I agree. It's a better defense.
@DC Dawg @Bulldawg Bob2 @dawgdays I would say Gurley by far was definetly motivating the team. Last year we had so many people leading and directing. Which I believe was due to more Senior experience and leadership on D, I would love to see all the pieces come together for an entire season. It has been a long time for us. We always have the one or two games a year.
@bigredballer yet we quit going to the plays that worked. If they can't stop why leave it????
@CCM=Proud Dawg Yes I forgot about that one
@bigredballer and one to hicks
