Look… We all need to chat seriously about something pretty important…
This may sound crazy and all but if you are looking for something to do tonight a little out of the ordinary you need to find your favorite happy hour or hit up the man cave and prepare because gameday is actually tonight at 7:30 p.m. Yes, the Georgia Bulldogs do not play until Saturday at noon-ish, but there is another team out there, as a Dawg fan, you must invest in and jump on the bandwagon.
And that team is the Clemson Tigers…
(patiently waits while the outrage ensues)
OK! So now that the shock of rooting for the team that knocked off the Bulldogs in week one and one of the oldest rivals to the fine folks in Athens has worn off, let’s focus on why this has to be one of the top items on the agenda of Georgia fans.
Clemson has a very real shot at finishing the season undefeated. If this happens and Mark Richt and his Bulldogs take care of business by winning out, the computers will love Georgia. (love might even be an understatement) Everyone knows that a one loss SEC team has walked away with the BCS Title the past few years and why bet against it to not happen in 2013. The Tigers have a much more favorable schedule than do the Bulldogs as they host the Florida State Seminoles in Death Valley next month and will not have to face the Miami Hurricanes until possibly the ACC Title Game.
But the reason for this urgent plea now is because Clemson faces an interesting task tonight against the North Carolina State Wolfpack. Yes, the Wolfpack. Yes, the team that had to win at the horn to beat the Richmond Spiders. Look, you can laugh all you want, but Raleigh is where top-ranked ACC football teams BCS hopes go to die.
Have you already forgotten about the juggernaut that was the 2012 Seminoles trip to NC State last season? How they were a 17 point favorite on their Thursday night trip into Raleigh. Or how about the 2005 season? Or better yet Clemson’s trip in 2011 when they were ranked No. 7 and got bushwhacked 37-13 by some quarterback by the name of Russell Wilson?
The strange thing is that the lines for all of those game where NC State knocked off Top-10 teams on Thursday nights had the Wolfpack getting double-digit points.
So this guy pleads with you Georgia nation! Whatever your lucky charms are or game day rituals might be, it’s time to break them out and loan some of the magic Between the Hedges to your brothers in Clemson. The Tigers rolling only helps Georgia’s chances for respect from here on out.
