Dontavius Russell is no longer committed to the University of Georgia after tweeting that he is reopening his recruiting process. This comes days after he visited the University of Auburn when the Tigers upset the Crimson Tide in the Iron Bowl. Russell had been flirting with the Tigers for quite sometime but claimed the Bulldogs were still the team for him.
Soon after opening his process back up, Bulldawg Illustrated was able to talk with him for just a few minutes. When asked if it was a UGA-AU battle now, Russell said “Its open to who ever is interested“.
Russell had been committed to Georgia since April 1st of this year, but after visiting Auburn he thought it was best to open it back up make sure he was making the right decision “I just Wanna make sure UGA is the right place for me”.
Even though he is no longer committed to Georgia, his interest in Georgia has not changed. “Yes, Georgia is still in it”.
Russell will likely not take any more visits till after his season ends. His Carrollton team plays Marist this coming Friday night in the semifinals.

Can't blame any 17 year old for wanting to be sure where he attends college. His verbal commitment is nonbinding as is the offer from any school. That is why schools keep recruiting.
If I am a defensive player and witnessed this years UGA defensive team.... I would see opportunity, but I would also wonder about the level of teaching that is happening. Maybe if our defensive secondary were coached, taught, or reminded during a time out to knock down a ball on 4th and 18.....
Well he's been looking around for a while. I don't begrudge him wanting to go somewhere else, but you take a spot that nobody else can be recruited for and after 8 months is when you say you aren't sure? Sometimes a kid does things that he wouldn't want somebody else to do to him.
I was worried something like this would happen after yesterday's insane Iron Bowl. Those are the kind of games that get recruits excited and emotional. Throw in some "look what we've done here in just one year" from the Barn, and I'd expect them to get many extra looks from the high school kids.
Good point. Some of these guys aren't that bright, and they're all still young teenagers. But they know enough football to see when a team isn't well coached. I don't blame Russell at all. Don't wanna lose him, but it's understandable.
@bpUGA09 true. Just hope UGA doesn't hold a schollie for him if there is another defensive lineman with similar credentials who isn't as wishy washy. Execute Plan B, and get back to working other kids. I believe this ship has sailed.
@fred russo@JTUGA and he announced yesterday that all assistants would be kept, meaning the defense you will play on is going to be coached the same it has been and achieve about the same results! oh and we want to be good and are really hoping for great one day!
