The University of Georgia football team has accepted a bid to the TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl, to be played January 1st at Noon in Jacksonville, Florida. The Dawgs will play the Nebraska Cornhuskers in a rematch of last year’s Capital One Bowl, where the Dawgs won 45-31.
The trip will mark only the fourth trip for UGA to the Gator Bowl (currently 2-0-1), the last coming in 1988 when the Dawgs beat Michigan State 34-27.
This will be the third ever meeting for the two storied football programs, with each team having a win in the series.
Jacksonville has been good to the Dawgs of late, winning their last three trips over the last three seasons against the Florida Gators. UGA fans should also be expected to travel very well for the game, even though Jacksonville may not be the first choice of stay, with so many UGA ties in the Golden Isles of the South Georgia coast. Many UGA themed New Year’s parties should be expected on and around the beaches of Saint Simons and Jekyll Islands, much like the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party week.
All things considered, UGA fans should be pleased with a New Years Day bowl in a (semi) warm location for that time of year. The players have worked their tails off this season, and have undoubtedly been through a lot with injuries, heartbreaking losses, and unforgettable wins. Hopefully you and your family will be able to make the trip to see Todd Gurley continue to mow down defenses, and Hutson Mason continue to come into his own.
Happy Bowl season from Bulldawg Illustrated!
