UGA Dawg Snacks Recruiting Insider: Junior Day Preview

3-Star DB to Announce this Week

Maurice Smitherman, defensive back from Adamsville, AL confirmed to me that he would announce his decision this week. He has a top 4 of Georgia, Florida, Florida State and Clemson and will choose one of those 4. Smitherman built a great relationship with defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt while he was still at Florida State and that relationship has carried over to Georgia. When Smitherman was asked if he would be attending UGA Junior Day next weekend, he responded with “Yes sir and i am going to junior day.”

The 5-11 corner has yet to receive an offer from either in-state school (Alabama or Auburn) but is ready to end his process this week. Georgia has an outstanding shot at landing Smitherman and we will attempt to get an exact announcement date and time as soon as we can.

Dawg Signees Recruiting 2015 Bama Commit Hard

Jonathan Ledbetter, 6-5 270 defensive end from Tucker High, committed to the University of Alabama on January 25th. With the commitment to the Tide, is his process over? No it is definitely not and he plans on being at UGA Junior Day this coming Saturday in Athens. “I am still going to take all my visits and everything to give other schools a look and meet all the coaching staffs.”

The Bulldogs have had a lot of success with Tucker High prospects as of late, including two signees (Dukes and Sanders) in the 2014 class. Ledbetter admitted that he is being recruited hard to Georgia by these future Dawgs “Haha yes both of them are recruiting me hard.”

Ledbetter is feelings the heat from the two future Dawgs from the 2014 class, but he is also very close to another 2015 prospect on the Tucker Tigers team. “Yeah we’re all really good friends and yeah Elijah Sullivan and me are really close too.” Sullivan will also be at Junior Day on the 15th.

So where does that Dawgs stand for Ledbetter even though he is already committed to Alabama? “Yeah, the Dawgs are still in my top 5.”

Gamecock Commit Loves Dawgs

Chauncey Rivers committed to South Carolina back on July 20th of 2015, but he recently received a Bulldogs offer and it gave him something to think about. “Coach Pruitt came to the school and offered me, it changes a lot. It’s been in my top 3 for the longest.” The 6-3 238 defensive end from Stephenson High said he plans on visiting UGA this coming Saturday for Junior Day.

Rivers has admitted several times that this offer means a lot and that Georgia was his dream school, but as of right now he is still committed to South Carolina. A good visit this coming weekend to Georgia could make things interesting for Chauncey Rivers.

 TE has Dawgs on Top

Chris Clark unofficially visited Athens on January 30th to check out the campus and get familiar with the whole coaching staff. The visit went very well, so well that he named a leader following the visit. “Yeah, Georgia would be my number 1.” Clark then said he is in no hurry to make an announcement, and this process is not close to being over right now. “It is going to take time.”

In an interview with Bulldawg Illustrated’s Zachary Ramsay, Clark let us know of a timeframe on his announcement. “It’s definetely going to be before my senior season starts.” He also named a few teams that were recruiting him the hardest. “Georgia, Tennessee, Ohio State, Virginia, UNC, and Michigan.”

Georgia has the lead and has had loads of success with out of state tight ends in the past, we will see if they can hold on and land the 6’6/245 prospect from Avon, CT.
