Georgia Swimmers Earn SEC Weekly Honors

Georgia swimmers Hali Flickinger, Matias Koski and Gunnar Bentz have earned Southeastern Conference weekly honors, according to an announcement by the league office on Tuesday.

Flickinger and Koski were named SEC Swimmers of the Week for the first time, while Bentz earned SEC Male Freshman of the Week honors for the third time.

Flickinger, a junior from Spring Grove, Pa., won three events in the Lady Bulldogs’ win at South Carolina last Saturday. She posted season-best and B-cut times of 54.31 and 2:00.83, respectively, in the 100 backstroke and the 200 individual medley, and she won the 500 freestyle in 4:47.44. Behind Flickinger, Georgia won every individual event and both relays to improve to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in the SEC.

Koski, a junior from Duluth, recorded three individual wins and was on a first-place relay as the Bulldogs (6-1, 3-0 SEC) dispatched the Gamecocks. He took the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.25, the 100 freestyle in 44.85 and the 1,000 freestyle in 9:07.10. His 50 and 1,000 freestyle times established season bests. Koski also anchored the 400 freestyle relay that won in 3:00.59.

Bentz, a freshman from Atlanta, won twice and was on a victorious relay. He claimed the 200 breaststroke in 2:00.52 and the 200 butterfly in 1:49.66 and placed third in the 200 freestyle in 1:39.19  Bentz also led off the 400 freestyle relay that won in 3:00.59. Bentz’s 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and 100 freestyle leadoff split all were personal bests. Bentz, Koski and the Bulldogs won each individual event and both relays.

Georgia’s swimming and diving teams will return to action Saturday as they entertain Texas at 11 a.m. The men’s meet will pit the Nos. 1 (Texas) and 3 (Georgia) teams against each other, while the women’s meet will feature No. 2 Georgia against No. 6 Texas.
