[break] The 10th-ranked Georgia gymnastics team led after each of the first three rotations, but the Gymdogs had to count two falls on beam in a 194.850-194.300 loss to No. 15 Denver Monday afternoon at Magness Arena.

The Gymdogs (1-2) led by .925 going to the balance beam, but scored a 47.400 in the final rotation while Denver (3-0) posted a 48.875 on floor.

“We started stronger on bars today with Rachel Schick, Brandie Jay and Chelsea Davis performing the way they can, and that was good to see,” said Georgia coach Danna Durante. “Vault was better. We are obviously not happy with the way we finished, and we have to be better than that. We have work to do. That’s about all I can say.”

Georgia opened the meet on bars and registered a 49.125. Schick and Jay led the effort with back-to-back 9.9s in the middle of the lineup, and after one rotation Georgia led 49.125-49.050. It was the first career event title for Schick and the third of the season on bars for Jay.

The Gymdogs then went to vault and posted a 49.05, while Denver scored a 48.625 on bars. Ashlyn Broussard shared top honors with a 9.875, and Jay scored a 9.85. At the halfway point Georgia led 98.125-97.675.

In the third rotation, Georgia outscored the Pioneers 48.825-48.3. Vivi Babalis led the team on floor with a 9.85 to help the Gymdogs take a 147.000-145.975 advantage after three rotations.

In the final rotation, UGA’s highest score on beam was a 9.7 while Denver turned in a 48.875 on floor to secure the win.

Georgia will be back in action Saturday at home against Kentucky at 4 p.m. The competition will serve as the annual Pink Meet as the Gym Dogs team up with Athens Regional Medical Center to raise money and awareness in the fight against breast cancer.
