The ninth-ranked Georgia women’s tennis team (2-1) will hit the road for matches against No. 13 Clemson (2-0) at 1 p.m. on Saturday and No. 10 Virginia (2-1) at 6 p.m. on Monday.

The trip will serve as yet another early season test for the Bulldogs, who narrowly fell on the road to No. 6 Baylor at the start of the season. The team has won both of its matches since then, however, going 2-0 at the ITA Kick-Off in Athens last weekend with 4-1 and 4-0 wins over No. 71 Samford and No. 28 Auburn, respectively.

Senior Lauren Herring, who is ranked 19th in the nation in singles, put on a stellar display as she defeated Auburn’s No. 36 ranked Pleun Burgmans in singles and then sided with freshman teammate Ellen Perez to pull off a 6-4 upset of Burgmans and Emily Flickinger, the nation’s No. 3 ranked doubles team.

As a result of the win over Auburn, the Bulldogs booked a place in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, which will take place from Feb. 6-9, also at Virginia. Herring was also named SEC Player of the Week by the league office on Wednesday for her strong play over the weekend.

The Bulldogs faced both Clemson and Virginia last season and wound up winning both matches by respective 7-0 and 4-3 score lines. Ironically, the Tigers were ranked No. 13 when they met last spring. Virginia was ranked No. 5. Georgia is 27-19 all-time against Clemson, with the Tigers having not won a match over the Bulldogs since 2010. Against the Cavaliers, Georgia is 2-0 all-time following last year’s win.

Common Kryptonite:

Both Georgia and Virginia have faced No. 6 Baylor this spring in Waco, Texas, site of the 2015 NCAA Tennis Championships. The Cavaliers lost 6-1 while the Bulldogs lost 4-3.

Georgia will battle the Cavaliers on Feb. 2 and remain in Charlottesville for the National Team Indoor Championships from Feb. 6-9.
