[su_spacer size=”20″] Georgia endured a tough weekend against SEC rival Missouri, falling 6-0 Sunday as the Tigers completed a sweep.

The Tigers improved to 15-4 overall while the Bulldogs dropped to 12-8 (0-3 SEC). Tiger starter Peter Fairbanks notched the win to even his record at 2-2 as he one-hit the Bulldogs through seven innings with three walks and six strikeouts. Andrew Schwaabpitched the final two innings.

Georgia starter David Sosebee (2-1) provided two hitless innings before the Tigers struck for a pair of runs in the third. Sosebee had to leave the game due to an illness.

Georgia’s hits on the day came from Mike Bell and Nick King. Stephen Wrenn was hit by a pitch in the ninth to extend his on base streak to all 20 games this season. Senior Jared Walsh saw his career-best 15-game hitting streak end after going 0-for-4. However, Walsh did provide three solid innings of relief, allowing one unearned run with two strikeouts. With Sosebee leaving early for his second straight start, Georgia coach Scott Stricklin said Walsh would likely be in the weekend rotation.

After Sosebee, Georgia got relief efforts from Zach Waters and Taylor Hicks before Walsh finished the game. Waters allowed three runs on three hits while Hicks went two scoreless frames. Bell recorded the first hit for Georgia in the fifth inning, quickly followed by a stolen base. However, the Bulldogs were unable to produce anything in that frame. Walsh began the game at first base before moving to the mound for the start of the seventh inning. The Tigers got RBI from Jake Ring, Trey Harris and Case Munson.

“We weren’t ready to play this weekend and that falls on us as coaches, and overall, I thought Missouri competed better on the mound, at the plate and in the field,” Stricklinsaid. “We’ve been working and practicing hard as a team but we didn’t play very well at all this weekend. However, it’s a long season and we’ve got 27 more conference games and 36 total games left in the regular season, and we need to play much better and that starts Tuesday against a very good Mercer team.”
