In Austin, junior Ashinia Miller moved from No. 5 to No. 4 on Georgia’s all-time top-10 list in the shot put and finished second behind the three-time NCAA champion from Texas, senior Ryan Crouser.  Miller worked up to a personal-best throw of 65 feet, 1 ¼ inches on his fifth of six attempts and shot to No. 2 on the national performance list behind Crouser.

At the Yellow Jacket meet, sophomore Ayrian Evans ran the fastest time of his career (47.18) to win the 400-meter dash while freshman Raytez Jenkins was the second collegiate finisher (third overall) after clocking a 48.14.  Former Bulldog David Dickens was second overall after running a 47.97.

Junior Jamario Calhoun highlighted his day by winning the 200 after running a career-best time of 20.93, which is No 5 on the national performance list.  Following an opening foul, Calhoun responded with a long jump mark of 24-2.25 for third-place honors.  Finally, Calhoun finished second on the track in the 100 after crossing the finish line in 10.52.

Opening his season in the 400 hurdles, senior Drew Branch started with a victory after recording a time of 51.17.

Moving up from the 800 to the 1500 for the weekend, senior Charles Grethen won by half a second after registering a 3:50.00.

The Lady Bulldogs managed to finish third and fourth in the 1500 as Bret McDaniel ran a 4:35.42 and Erika Ramsey clocked a career-best time of 4:35.88.

Sophomore Holly Ebbets also cleared a collegiate personal-best height of 11-3.75 on her third attempt to tie for ninth in the pole vault.

Ebbets’ brother Caleb was fourth in the men’s competition with a 16-1.75 clearance.

Also of note, senior Quintunya Chapman competed in the open javelin while training for the heptathlon and hit a career-best mark of 123-11 for seventh place on her second try.

In the men’s open javelin, junior Maicel Uibo competed for the first time after injuring himself at the NCAA indoor meet and was third in the javelin with an opening toss of 193-2.

The Bulldogs travel to Gainesville, Fla., for the Florida Relays on April 3-4 before hosting the Bulldog Decathlon/Heptathlon and Spec Towns Invitational on April 8-11 in Athens.
