[su_spacer size=”20″] The Georgia softball team is set to open the Southeastern Conference Tournament against Ole Miss on Wednesday, May 6 at Tiger Park in Baton Rouge, La. The Bulldogs are the No. 6 seed in the tournament, while Ole Miss is the No. 11 seed. Georgia enters the week with an overall record of 39-13, while Ole Miss is 30-23 on the year. Georgia took home the program’s first ever SEC Tournament Title a year ago.

Georgia and Ole Miss will meet for the fourth time this season. Georgia swept Ole Miss in the regular-season series in Oxford, Miss. This will mark the first time that the two teams have faced one another in the SEC Tournament. The Bulldogs lead the all-time series 41-7.

The Bulldogs look to defend their SEC Tournament title. Georgia won its first ever tournament title last season in Columbia, S.C. Georgia won three-straight games over Alabama, Florida and Kentucky, all Women’s College World Series participants, to take the title. Overall, Georgia is 19-19 in the SEC Tournament.

Georgia put five players on an All-SEC Team, it was announced earlier this week. Alex Hugo earned first team honors, while Chelsea Wilkinson, Sydni Emanuel and Tina Iosefa earned second team accolades. Cortni Emanuel was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team. It was the most All-SEC honors since 2011.

The Georgia softball program recorded its 850th win with the 8-4 win over Kentucky in the regular-season finale. Head Coach Lu Harris-Champer is responsible for 735 of those wins.

Georgia’s bats have shown up in a big way recently. Georgia had hit 11 home runs in its first 19 games of the season. In its last 33 games, the Bulldogs have it 40 home runs. Alex Hugo leads the way with 19 homers, followed by Anna Swafford with 12.

Georgia will learn its NCAA Tournament fate on Sunday, May 10 at 10 p.m. The Bulldogs are looking to make their 14th-straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
