Wondering What Changed Attitudes Toward Sports Spending at UGA?

[su_spacer size=”20″] There have been several articles in the Dawgosphere recently featuring well thought out speculation about the obvious change in administrative attitudes toward sports spending at Georgia. Things like an indoor practice facility, analysts/quality control personnel and staff salaries are striking examples that just a short while ago were declared to be unnecessary, at best.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Investments in personnel, plant and equipment get much easier to approve when one discovers a substantial windfall. When that windfall shows every sign of becoming a river of long term cash flow, a few non-coaching coaches and and IPF become pocket money.
[su_spacer size=”40″] [su_quote style=”modern-light” cite=”Outkick the Coverage” url=”http://www.foxsports.com/college-football/outkick-the-coverage/the-15-most-valuable-sports-networks-050715″] The first number is the monthly subscriber fee, which you then multiply by twelve and then multiply that number by the number of homes that carry the channel.
[su_spacer size=”10″] 1. ESPN $6.61 x 94.5 million homes = $7.5 billion
2. NFL Network $1.31 x 73.6 million homes = $1.16 billion
3. FS1 .99 x 91.2 million homes = $1.08 billion
4. ESPN2 .83 x 94.5 million hiomes = $941.2 million
5. SEC Network .66 x 69.1 million homes = $547.3 million
[su_spacer size=”10″] ~~~
[su_spacer size=”10″] The SEC Network is nearly worth the same amount as the NBA, NHL, and MLB’s Networks combined.
[su_spacer size=”10″] Those three bring in $565 million a year, the SEC Network brings in $541 million.
[su_spacer size=”10″] The SEC dwarfs the Big Ten Network, producing nearly twice the subscriber revenue.
[su_spacer size=”10″] Most still haven’t realized how successful the SEC Network is. Just wait until these revenue distributions start to roll out to the individual schools. The SEC Network is a total game changer. It went from not existing nine months ago to the fifth most valuable sports network in the country in less than a year.
[/su_quote] [su_spacer size=”40″] UGA will receive $4 million this summer for the first year of SEC Network operations and, remember, the Network did not begin broadcasting until August of 2014.
[su_spacer size=”40″] The new spending a UGA is long overdue and has kick-started changes in attitudes and momentum that are easily noticed by program observers – especially recruits. Nothing puts a spring in one’s step and improves one’s attitude like a big fat wallet.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Now there are no excuses.
