The Georgia men’s tennis team won all three of its matches to begin play at the Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships Monday.

Ben Wagland, Nick Wood and Walker Duncan each won their opening round qualifying matches to advance to the second round on Tuesday. Second round winners will play again Tuesday for a spot in the main draw.
Wagland defeated Valparaiso’s Charlie Emhardt, 7-5, 6-1, Wood downed SMU’s Nate Lammons 6-2, 6-4, while Duncan saved two match points to beat Texas’ Michael Riechmann 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(6).
“Overall it was a great day,” said UGA associate head coach Bo Hodge. “To go 3-0 for our guys was a step in the right direction. Each guy played the big points well and is getting better each time they step on the court. I know they are looking forward to getting back on the court tomorrow.”
Wagland will take on Ohio State’s Matt Mendez at 9 a.m. ET, Wood will play South Florida’s Dominic Cotrone at 11 a.m., and Duncan will take on Virginia’s Mac Styslinger at 10 a.m. in the second round.
Senior Austin Smith and sophomore Wayne Montgomery have secured spots in the main draw, which will begin on Thursday.
