Let’s look into the future here and pretend that Georgia wins its next two games against Auburn and Tech there by finishing with a 10-2 season. In your opinion, when you factor in all the injuries this season and the fact that the two losses would have come to teams that are #1 and #4 in the most recent BCS ranking, is it fair to consider a 10-2 season disappointing? And don’t forget the 2008 schedule that all the pundits called “almost not fair”.
Or perhaps are you a fan that is fed up with the way the Georgia staff and team continues to make the same type of mistakes since the Mark Richt era began in 2001? I’m talking about things like throwing the ball way too much, special team and clock management blunders and a porous defense that hasn’t been quite as stout since Van Gorder left.
2008 has been an interesting year to say the least. I hope the team can rally and win out, but looking at the entire body of work this season, I’m afraid 9-3 seems more realistic. I hope I’m wrong because 2009 has lots of potential, but once again expectations could be clouding the truth. Win the next two games by playing four complete quarters in each game and then I think big things are realistic for next season. Fart around and I think you can expect another decent season that’s unfortunately leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
And what do you think?????

I totally hated that we came out in the pre-season polls on top...b/c when that happens, you have no where to go but down. 10-2 isn't a bad season, but when you consider who's beaten who in the SEC, we at least should not have been walloped so by Florida. It's not as much the 10-2 (let's hope) record, to me, as to whom we contribute our losses. I'd like to see us playing Alabama again, but that's highly unlikely... so yea, those same old mistakes are coming back to haunt. Go Dawgs!
I to would have liked to see us do better than we have done to date, but 10-2 is not a bad year, and see what we did last year and were put to the top of the polls at the start of this season and needless to say that there are few teams undefeated so far and it is predicted there will not be any when the season winds down, but that remains to be seen. The 'Tide' had to win theirs in o.t. against LSU which we beat soundly to hang on while T.T. walloped theirs soundly also. So NO don't think 10 - 2 would be a bad year; 'SOOO GOOOO DAWGSSSS GOOO - WOOF, WOOF, WOOF!!!...
Eleven-2 will be OK.
It's not that 10-2 would be a bad season, it's how you look at it based on the level of expectations from the end of 2007. I understand we had injuries, but for the most part they were on the offensive side of the ball. Our downfall this year has been our defense, or lack thereof. If you look at the our last 3 games, plus the Alabama game, we have surrendered 166 points. That's an average of 41.5 points per game. If we didn't have Matt Stafford and Knowshown, I'm not sure that we could have overcome much of what we have so far this season. Putting it in "artistic" terms, I would like to say this year is much like a body of work by Monet. In other words, from a distance it looks pretty impressive.. but when you really get up and look at it closely, it's more or less just some paint slung on the canvas, and really isn't that impressive or pretty. The games that we were supposed to win, we did, some closer than others. The ones that should have been "statement games", our defense was blown off the field like we didn't even belong on the same field. Don't get me wrong, I bleed Red and Black, and support our team (as evidenced by our 10 day gauntlet RV trip), but I think CMR needs to look at Martinez really hard. We have too many tremendous athletes on that side of the football to be getting the results that we are getting. I don't want to see us stuck as a mediocre team because we don't have the right man leading our defense. Offense sells tickets, but defense wins championships, and I don't think we are going to win one with Willie Martinez at the helm. Here's hope for A win on the plains, and tying the "drought" over Tech. Go Dawgs!
10-2 would have to be looked at as an excellent record. Assuming a bowl win and another Top 10 finish it would be seen as maintaining the program's upward trajectory, keeping us in position to have "The Season" where all the breaks go our way (UF 2006, LSU 2007) and we add a BCS trophy to Butts-Mehre. What will bother everyone is that against the two best teams we faced we were not even really competitive. Once in a season... sure, it happens. Twice? May indicate some broader, more fundamental issues. I trust Coach Richt to address any such issues if indeed they exist.
