The Dawgs have won the last two contests against Auburn and managed to score 82 points in the process; 37-15 in 2006 and 45-20 in 2007. Can we keep it up? This year the Georgia offense features its most dynamic set of skill position players Richt has ever coached. Despite a shaky offensive line, the playmakers have managed to put points on the board. Personally, I can’t see our offense slowing down and it’s hard to imagine Auburn’s anemic offense doing much of anything considering their 2008 track record. With that said, this is one of the oldest and most interesting rivalries, one that rarely adheres to expectations and rationale. For example, recent history shows that the home team typically loses. In 2006, a stout Auburn defense and top 5 ranking couldn’t keep a struggling Georgia team out of the endzone to the tune of 37 points; UGA had lost four out of its previous five games, including losses to Vandy and Kentucky.
This game is personal. There are 25 Georgia boys on the Auburn roster – three out of the four top rushers at Auburn are from Georgia. The only thing we can expect this weekend is the unexpected. Let’s expect a close game, AJ Green heroics in all, and maybe we’ll come out with another big win!
DAWGS
We took a knee in 2006 (and didn't even run out the clock) or we could have scored 40+. For the life of me, I still don't understand why we didn't hand the ball off to a guy like Jason Johnson and try to put more points on the board. . . . We need to kick Auburn while they are down this year.
