Rocky Road: Dawgs Top Vols

The Dawgs controlled the clock, held Tennessee to 1 yard rushing, and put up 458 yards of total offense, easily doubling the Volunteers offensive output. Going into the 4th quarter the score was 20-14. Tennessee had capitalized on two Stafford interceptions and we had failed multiple times, once with a bit of help from the referees, to convert TDs in the red zone. In one instance, pass interference was called on Tennessee when trying to defend Massaquoi, but the referees failed to reset the downs as specified in the rules. Obviously the referees missed a call, but that doesn’t change the fact that we couldn’t score in the previous 3 downs inside the 10-yard line. Our offense, typically efficient in the red-zone this season, settled for four field goals and simply couldn’t capitalize on career days from Stafford, Massaquoi, and Moreno. Although I would have liked to see a different score-line, a win is a win in the SEC. The defense seemed to be fired up and showed glimpse of that dominating pass rush that took off towards the end of the 2007 season. I like our chances against the recently formidable Commodores, but would really enjoy a decisive victory heading into the four SEC road games. Next week, let’s not wait until the fourth quarter to finish the drill.

Opinion: I’m glad Coach Bobo stuck with the run and gave Knowshon the ball 27 times.

Verdict: Vince Vance will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury suffered in the second quarter.

Question: Who do you think should take Vince Vance’s spot on the line?

Quick Hits -Georgia outrushed Tennessee 148-1 -Georgia time of possession: 42:09 to Tennessee’s 17:51 -Chapas was second to Massaquoi [103 yards] in receiving with 64 yards.
