Less than 24 hours after revealing his “Top 3” schools, Class of 2020 4-Star DT Jalen Carter of Apopka High School in Apopka, Florida, narrowed it all down to one by committing to play for the Georgia Football program.

Carter’s commitment decision coming less than a day after revealing his top schools of choice is a testament and an example of just how quickly things can develop in the world of college football recruiting. It would be hard to find anyone associated with the University of Georgia, the Georgia Football program, and UGA Athletics that is not thrilled with the defensive tackle’s decision in spite of any abnormal developments surrounding it. Jalen Carter is the #10 overall DT in the nation and the #14 overall prospect in the state of Florida for the Class of 2020 per 247Sports Composite Rankings. With his decision coming in today, the Georgia Football program now has 10 commitments in the Class of 2020. His choice to play “Between The Hedges” in the future also catapults the Dawgs to #5 overall in the 247Sports Team Class Rankings.

The commitment by Carter to play for the Dawgs is a big win for UGA Defensive Line Coach Tray Scott and the football program in Athens. Such is especially true given that several Georgia defensive line members will exhaust their eligibility following the upcoming season including Tyler Clark, David Marshall, and Julian Rochester among others. The Florida prospect visited Athens on 4 different occasions before his commitment decision was made and provided information to 247Sports that the Dawgs were on his mind from the first visit on.

“I knew it would be Georgia from the first visit. Each visit got better and better. I have bonded with players and I feel at home in Athens.”

Jalen Carter is an exceptional defensive lineman that will certainly make a difference on the defense for the Dawgs in the near future. He is big and strong in terms of his frame and stature standing in at 6-4 and 301 pounds. The Apopka product is a physical player that tackles opponents with authority and tenacity. Aside from playing angry and aggressive as it relates to both tackling and blocking, he is very versatile in that he has the capability to play where he is needed (i.e. on the outside or the inside position). The 4-Star DT has also shown his athleticism, skill, and knowledge of the game as a lineman via his ability to play on both sides of the ball. One of the more noticeable attributes that sets Carter apart from the other linemen around him is his quickness in spite of his massive size. Such was notated by 247Sports Recruiting Analyst John Garcia Jr. about the defensive lineman when he watched Carter perform at the 2019 Under Armour All-America Camp in Orlando, Florida. Garcia Jr. further noted that his speed enabled him to be proficient and to stand out among other elite linemen that were also in attendance at the camp. The Georgia Football program certainly got better with Carter’s commitment earlier today. They are getting a player that has the capability to be effective and efficient if he were to be shifted over to the opposite side of the ball if such a need presented itself. With Carter in the fold and the Dawgs moving up in the team recruiting rankings for the Class of 2020, who will be the next player to “Commit To The G”?
