What was considered to be the Dawgs top home match up of the season, ended in a 41 to 13 blow out win.
The John Mateer that carried Oklahoma to the playoffs in 2025, struggled to generate scoring opportunities against the Dawgs defense.
In just the first half, Mateer threw for three turnovers, resulting in two scores for Georgia. Linebacker Chris Cole, scooped up one of the fumbles by Mateer, and returned it for a 85-yard touchdown. Cole had another fumble recovery, showing out for Georgia’s defense.
KJ Bolden interrupted a deep pass from Mateer in the second quarter for a return of 28-yards.
Post-game, Bolden said he hopes the Georgia defense is getting back to the “standard.”
Head coach Kirby Smart said that this standard is simply “excellence.” He believes that there are a lot of things this team needs to improve on to meet that standard, but can see them heading in that direction.
Despite Nate Frazier being out due to a rib injury, the Dawgs still dominated in the ground game, racking up 126 yards and three rushing touchdowns.
Offensively, Talyn Taylor shone for the receiving core. Taylor ran for 110 yards on four carries and had a high impact 35-yard touchdown to start the second quarter.
Another shocking stand out for the offense was running back, Dwight Phillips Jr. He had a career long run of 54-yards that resulted in one of the five touchdowns for Georgia.
Without Frazier, Chauncey Bowens had his time to shine as starting running back. On just nine carries and 26 yards, Bowens ran in two short-yard touchdowns.
Gunner Stockton had a solid game in the first half, but had some passing accuracy going into the second half. He broke his record of having more touchdowns than incompletions, but still finished solid with one passing touchdown and 171 yards.
Smart did not want to give the offense credit all to Stockton.
“I thought our offensive line did a really good job on that defensive front of the protection, keeping Gunner upright and giving him a chance to throw open and the third down conversion to Talyn was a big one,” said Smart.
The Dawgs next match up will be Vanderbilt next Saturday in Sanford Stadium. They will face previously flipped UGA commit, quarterback Jared Curtis in an unranked game against the Commodores.
