The fourth-ranked Georgia women’s tennis team (15-2, 8-1) finished off a dominant weekend at home with a 4-0 win over No. 71 Missouri on Saturday afternoon at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
The 4-0 win represented Georgia’s third consecutive sweep at home, following the 4-0 victory over No. 24 Arkansas on Thursday and a 4-0 win over 54th-ranked Tennessee on March 19. The Bulldogs also extended their home win streak to 19 matches.
“I thought our doubles play was good,” said Georgia head coach Jeff Wallace. “It was close. Every doubles court was 3-2 at some point. The first half of the set was good tennis for everybody, and I thought our players really picked it up and did a great job to get that doubles point. It gave us some momentum going into singles, and I thought singles was great. There was some great tennis being played.”
The Bulldogs took the doubles point, finishing off both matches just seconds apart. The third-court pairing of Caroline Brinson and Laura Patterson improved to 2-0 on the spring with its second win of the weekend, claiming a 6-3 decision. Ellen Perez and Mariana Gould then clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 decision of their own on the top court.
Kennedy Shaffer added to the Georgia lead, claiming her 15th win of the spring with a dominant 6-2, 6-1 performance on the second court to give the home squad a 2-0 lead. Brinson followed suit with a 6-1, 6-2 score on the fourth court to claim a 3-0 lead for the Bulldogs.
Patterson then closed out the win for Georgia, taking a 6-1, 6-4 decision on the sixth court. It was Patterson’s first match clincher of the season.
The Bulldogs will next hit the road for a match at LSU on Friday, April 8 before finishing the weekend on Sunday, April 10 at Texas A&M.
“We love to play at home,” added Wallace. “This is the greatest place in the world to play college tennis. We love being here, but we also realize that we have to take road trips. This team always has a great time when we travel and we’re looking forward to some challenges. It’s going to be really good for us.”
