University of Georgia gymnasts Alexa Al-Hameed and Megan Roberts earned Southeastern Conference (SEC) All-Freshman honors after No. 8 Georgia finished fourth at the SEC Championship in New Orleans.
The All-Freshman Team is comprised of the freshmen student-athletes with the top score (including ties) on each event in the first session of the SEC Championship, and the student-athlete with the top score (including ties) on each event in the second session. The All-Freshman Team also includes the freshmen student-athletes with the top two all-around scores (including ties) in each session of the competition/Championship.
Al-Hameed and Roberts were honored for their performances on bars after both posting a 9.900 in the evening session of the championship.
The score marked a season-high for Roberts, a native of Toronto, Canada. For Al-Hameed, from Ames, Iowa, it was the fourth time she’s scored a 9.900 or higher on the event this season, including a 9.950 and a 9.925 against Kentucky and Alabama, respectively.
The GymDogs are set to host the NCAA Athens Regional April 4-6 in Stegeman Coliseum. No. 8 Georgia will compete in the afternoon session of the second round on April 5 with No. 9 Kentucky, Missouri, and Iowa State, beginning at 2 p.m.
