Offensive player of the game
Dwight Phillips Jr. – the junior from Mapleton, Georgia stands 5’10 and weighs in at 185-pound, but he has the speed of the beloved roadrunner. Affectionately known as Peanut to his teammates, Saturday against Oklahoma Dwight had eight carries for 84 yards average 10.5 yards per carry. His long run of 54 yards broke the Sooners heart and put the first nail in the coffin for an Oklahoma team that was out classed. In a game, where our starting tailback mate Frasier was not able to go, Dwight, along with the other running backs, made up for his absence with a tremendous performance that helped the Georgia Bulldogs remain undefeated early in the SEC schedule. Dwight’s style of running is unique in the backfield and that’s why you will see him featured more as the season grows deeper.
Defensive player of the game
In remembrance of Dolly Parton, my defensive players of the game are a true 9 to 5 CHALLENGE. The teammates of No. 9 and No. 5 tallied 19 tackles between Chris Cole and Raylen Wilson. Cole and Wilson dominated the Oklahoma offense combining for 19 tackles, two sacks, 2 1/2 tackles for losses and two fumble recoveries by Cole, taking the first fumble recovery back 85 yards for a defensive touchdown. Wilson and Cole have tremendous speed and everybody saw what kind of speed Cole had on his sprint to pay dirt against the Sooners. Wilson and Cole are two of the best 9 to 5 workers we have and I know Dolly would be proud of them much like the Bulldog Nation is very proud of them. Two Damn Good Dawgs that the Sooners had no answer for.
Special team player of the game
Peyton Woodring – Peyton was perfect again from 45 and 49 yards against the Sooners and his extra points cleared the way for a new name in the University of Georgia record book for consecutive extra points as Payton broke Rodrigo’s Blankenship’s previous SEC record of 200 consecutive extra points. The senior from Louisiana’s duel with the current Lou Groza winner, Tate Sandell, of Oklahoma and Payton came out on top not only with the win, but with a more consistent productive performance which only makes the Bulldogs better. I love me some field goal kickers and I don’t love anyone more than I love Peyton!
