Cheri’s Classic City Crushes: Bulldog Brunch

(1) HILLTOP GRILLE – The real BULLDOG BRUNCH airs live from Hilltop each Sunday morning from 10 am – noon following a Georgia football Saturday. Hosts Kevin Butler and Jeff Dantzler put on a great show and you can listen from anywhere on the Georgia Bulldogs app if you can’t join them in Athens. My go-to is the crab cake benedict with red mule grits and bacon! (2) APPOINTMENTS AT FIVE – I love Beatrix Ball, a line out of New Orleans, especially their versatile pieces that can be a chip and dip or a bowl for a vegetable side or salad with an accompanying sauce. (3) SHIRAZ – Check out their wide selection of cheeses and spreads including Sweet Grass Dairy out of Thomasville, Ga. A mainstay for a southern brunch menu to me is pimento cheese and I love their unique adaptation which includes Thomasville Tomme, mayonnaise (duh), piquillo peppers and pimentón from Spain which makes it slightly spicy and smoky with a creamy texture. Call and be sure Emily has it in stock or stop by and she will find something fabulous either way. (4) UGA BOOKSTORE – Cat Studio tall frosted glasses are perfect for a bloody mary with all the fixings or a glass of iced tea. Such a fun touch to have UGA glassware. (5) TITO’S – America’s first craft vodka is the perfect spirit for your Bulldog bloody mary! Just add pickled veggies, celery, olives and Zing Zang. Lately, I add a dash or two of Red Clay Hot Sauce for extra spice and a slice of lime to brighten it up. (6) HEERY’S TOO – Georgia cocktail napkins are a must for the hostess with the mostest! Fun little details make people feel special. (7) JITTERY JOES COFFEE – What is brunch without coffee? Let’s Attack the Day with this rich and smooth, dark roasted coffee. This red, black and silver can is a collector’s edition. Fun to display it with your coffee accoutrements of sugar and creamer. (8) R. WOOD STUDIO – I am bananas over Rebecca Wood’s red Georgia clay pottery! The serving pieces are great and for a bulldog brunch, I recommend her colors poppy (red pictured), summer rain (grey) and cotton (white) for a bulldog vibe. You can order for shipping at rwoodstudio.com or call and pick-up curbside in Athens at the studio. (9) ATHENS INTERIOR MARKET – Rather than the traditional tailgating buffet, assemble individual snack boards for guests and use papers from Hester & Cook’s Football Collection for easy cleanup to celebrate the Dawgs in style.
