UGA Athletic Association Presents: The Heritage of Sport

In celebration of the 2016 International Day of Monuments and Sites, the UGA Athletic Association will co-host “UGA: The Heritage of Sport” on Monday, April 11th at 4 p.m. at the Richard Russell Special Collections Library Auditorium.
 
 
The program will feature a special exhibit and panel discussion about the heritage of sport at UGA and the impact it has had on the campus, students, alumni, faculty and rest of the university community. The panel will be comprised of distinguished speakers, Verne Lundquist, Tony Barnhart, Vince Dooley and Danny Sniff. A reception will follow the program.
 
 
Additionally, UGA Athletic Association Major Gifts Officer and a successful author and sportscaster, Loran Smith will moderate the panel. There will also be a video presentation written by Smith.
 
 
Lundquist is currently a CBS play-by-play announcer for college football and basketball, and commentates the Masters and the PGA tournament. Barnhart, also known as “Mr. College Football”, is a writer and broadcaster for the SEC Network, along with a columnist for GridIronNow. Dooley led the Bulldogs to a national championship in 1980 and won six Southeastern Conference titles throughout his time as head football coach from 1963 to 1988. He also served as Athletic Director from 1979 to 2004. Sniff is the Associate Vice President for Facilities Planning at the University of Georgia and oversaw a 47% increase in building square footage as the campus architect.
 
 
The event is organized by The Master of Historic Preservation Program in the College of Environment and Design and other co-hosts are Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication and the Russell Special Collection Libraries.
