The UGA men’s tennis team went a perfect 3-0 in the singles consolation bracket to highlight the Bulldogs’ day at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Senior Wayne Montgomery, junior Walker Duncan, and sophomore Nathan Ponwith rebounded from a tough outing Thursday to advance to the Round of 16 in the consolation singles bracket.
The 21st-ranked Montgomery defeated No. 42-ranked Ryo Matsumara from Kentucky, 6-2, 6-1, while 32nd-ranked Ponwith ousted 100th-ranked Charlie Broom from Dartmouth, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. Duncan, ranked No. 101 nationally, took down 35th-ranked Adam Moundir from Old Dominion, 1-6, 6-1, 6-3.
In other singles action, 30th-ranked Reinberg was outlasted by No. 7-ranked Skander Mansouri, 6-1, 7-5, to end his bid to advance in the main draw.
On the doubles courts, the Bulldogs tandem of Ponwith and Reinberg dropped their main draw match, while Robert Loeb and Jan Zielinski tripped up in their consolation doubles contest.
