An explosive fifth inning for No. 10 UCLA (8-4) pushed the Bruins to a 14-6 win in five frames over No. 8 Georgia (11-1) on Friday, giving the Bulldogs its first loss of the season.

The Bruins totaled 14 hits while capitalizing on four Bulldog miscues. Georgia had five hits in the game, led by sophomore Cortni Emanuel with two, as C. Emanuel and freshman Lacey Sumerlin had multi-RBI games.

In the circle, Brittany Gray (5-1) took the loss after coming in for relief at the start of the third inning. Gray finished the game with eight hits and eight runs, five earned, allowed in 2.2 innings. Chelsea Wilkinson started the game, going 2.0 frames with five hits and five runs, two earned, to her line.

For UCLA, Johanna Grauer (2-2) earned the win, coming from the bullpen for 3.2 innings. Grauer gave up three hits and four runs. On offense, Allexis Bennett was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with four runs and two RBI.

A pair of sacrifice bunts pushed UCLA to the game’s first run in its opening frame, but a two-RBI single by Sumerlin had Georgia up 2-1 in the top second.

Georgia fought back to regain the lead after UCLA had a four-run second inning, as four scores came in the fourth inning off the bat and speed of C. Emanuel. The sophomore recorded a two-out triple over the left fielder’s head then scored on wild pitch to make it 6-5. The lead was short-lived, as two runs scored on a throwing error from Gray, putting UCLA with the 7-6 advantage after four before increasing it to the final 14-6 in the fifth with UCLA using six hits and an error for the seven runs.

Play at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic for Georgia concludes on Saturday with a contest against Northwestern at one p.m. ET followed by San Jose State at 5:30 p.m. ET.
