[su_spacer size=”40″] These five Bulldogs all played in the majors during the 2014 season.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Wood was the first to see action this season as he started and earned a win for the Atlanta Braves this past Tuesday against Miami. A second round pick in 2012, he is in his third season in the majors. In 2014, he saw action as a starter and reliever and enjoyed a breakout campaign, going 11-11 with a 2.78 ERA and 170 strikeouts in 35 games.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Brown made his MLB debut last season, and this year marked the first time he was on an Opening Day Roster. He posted a 2.77 ERA in 28 games with the Rockies last season, recording 21 strikeouts and only five walks in 26 innings pitched. During spring training, he tallied a 1.59 ERA in 10 relief appearances to help make the club. Brown spent eight full seasons in the Minors, pitching in the Diamondbacks, Tigers and Pirates organization before breaking through with the Rockies in 2014. He was the 35th overall pick of the Diamondbacks in the 2006 draft.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Beckham, the eighth overall pick of the 2008 draft by Chicago, returned to the White Sox this offseason after spending the last month of the 2014 campaign with the Anaheim Angels. He is in his seventh season in the majors and has a career batting average of .245 with 63 home runs and 284 RBI. His initial role this season looks to be as a utility infielder.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Fields, a first round pick in the 2008 draft, is in his third season with the Astros as a reliever. He starts the season on the 15-day disabled list due to a groin strain. He is 5-9 with a 4.66 ERA and nine saves in 95 games in the majors.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Grimm, now in his fourth year in the majors and second with the Cubs, again will serve as a reliever. He was a fifth round pick of the Rangers in 2010 and spent time as a starter and reliever. In his MLB career, Grimm is 13-12 with a 5.37 ERA and one save in 105 games including 19 starts.
