Baseball: Adam Sasser is SEC and National Player of the Week


ATHENS—–Georgia junior first baseman Adam Sasser has been named Collegiate Baseball’s National Player of the Week as well as the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week, it was announced Monday.


A 6-4, 245-pound native of Evans, Ga., Sasser batted .538 (7-for-13) with four home runs and 10 RBI to lead Georgia to a three-game SEC road sweep of Missouri. He tied a school record with three home runs in one game in Georgia’s 10-6 win on Thursday. On Saturday, he belted his fourth home that capped a 10-pitch at bat in the team’s 7-1 victory.

Sasser leads the team with a .343 batting average, ranks second on the club with eight home runs and third in RBI with 39. He is Georgia’s leading hitter in SEC action at .381-5-24. He has played in 46 games with 39 starts at first base.


The Bulldogs (33-14) own a No. 4 RPI (Rating Percentage Index) according to the NCAA and are a consensus top 20 ranked team. They are ranked as high as No. 9 in Collegiate Baseball’s weekly top 30. Up next, Georgia faces Georgia Tech Tuesday in the 16th annual Farmview Spring Classic For Kids at SunTrust Park, a benefit for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
