The Diamond Dogs look to sweep the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets for the season in the 15th annual Spring Baseball Classic For Kids to benefit Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. The two in-state rivals will face off against each other at the Atlanta Braves’ new SunTrust Park at 7:00 p.m. ET this evening.

The Bulldogs (19-29) are riding high after winning a road series over then fourth-ranked Kentucky this past weekend, its first over a top-five opponent on the road since 2006 (#3 Miss. State 2-1). The Bulldogs begin this week by playing Tech (23-21). Georgia will be going for a three-game sweep in this year’s series. The Bulldogs beat Tech 5-1 in Athens (April 11) and then registered a 7-5 victory at Tech (April 25). Georgia will have another staff night Tuesday starting with freshman RHP Tony Locey (2-3, 7.02 ERA).

In records dating back to 1950, Georgia leads the series with Tech 120-102. For the past 14 years, Georgia and Tech squared off at Turner Field to benefit Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, and the game annually drew more than 19,000 fans and raised more than $200,000. Georgia went 9-5 in those games against Tech. This will be Georgia’s second game at SunTrust Park after playing in the first contest open to the public on April 8. The Bulldogs lost 6-1 to Missouri, and the game attracted 33,025, which marked the second-largest crowd ever to attend a college baseball game. Locey pitched one scoreless inning in that game versus the Tigers.

Sophomore C/DH Michael Curry (.319-9-44) is aiming to capture the team’s Triple Crown, leading the squad in home runs and RBI and is second in batting. He has started all 48 games this year at either catcher or designated hitter. Also excelling in the classroom, Curry has made the CoSIDA Academic All-District team as a Dean’s List student majoring in Computer Science. He is on the national ballot for Academic All-American.

Freshman RF Tucker Bradley (.322-0-2) has come on strong at the end of the season and sports a career-best 8-game hitting streak. During this stretch, he is batting .500 (18-for-36) including a four-hit game and three games with three hits. In the series win over No. 4 UK, Bradley batted .500 (6-for-12). He is batting a team-best .397 in SEC action. Georgia’s top freshman this season is shortstop Cam Shepherd (.305-5-26) who has started all 48 games, and he’s batting .320-2-10 in SEC action and fielding .946. He was perfect in 21 total chances in the series win over No. 4 UK. Sophomore LHP Kevin Smith (3-5, 5.94 ERA, 2 SV) made two appearances including a start against No. 4 Kentucky in Lexington and went 1-0 with a Save against the league’s top-rated offense! He notched a save in Friday’s 5-3 victory, then started Sunday’s rubber game and pitched seven innings to lead the Bulldogs to a 6-3 upset in handing Kentucky their first series loss of the year plus they were 20-3 at home on the year before Georgia came to town.

Freshman RHP Zac Kristofak (3-1, 4.20 ERA, 1 SV) notched a win in relief against No. 4 Kentucky Friday. In SEC action, he’s 2-0 with a 3.60 ERA and a save in nine appearances. His 22 appearances is a team-high and ranks sixth in the SEC.
