The Georgia baseball team will begin their three-game intrasquad Fall World Series starting this afternoon (Friday) at Foley Field.

The seven-inning scrimmages will feature a Red Squad and a Black squad. This afternoon’s (Friday’s) action will begin at 5:30 p.m ET. Saturday’s first pitch will be at 11:30 a.m. and Sunday’s game will begin at 12:30 p.m. All scrimmages are free and open to the public.

The game one pitching matchup on Friday will be junior Kevin Smith versus freshman Emerson Hancock. The 6-5, 232-pound Smith posted a 5-5 record, 4.87 ERA and two saves last season. Hancock, a 6-4, 192-pound right-hander, is one of the nation’s top newcomers. He went 11-1 with a 0.75 ERA and 125 strikeouts as a senior.

On Saturday, sophomore Tony Locey will be opposed by sophomore Justin Glover. The 6-3, 237-pound Locey appeared in 16 games with eight starts last year, going 2-4 with a 6.38 ERA. The 6-1, 197-pound Glover made 13 appearances including two starts last year, going 1-2 with a 3.94 ERA. On Sunday, senior Chase Adkins starts for the Black team against sophomore Tim Elliott. The 5-11, 178-pound Adkins went 6-7 with a 3.95 ERA in 14 starts last season while the 6-1, 180-pound Elliott made 15 relief appearances, going 1-0 with a 5.93 ERA.

Senior outfielder Keegan McGovern and junior All-SEC designated hitter/catcher Michael Curry are the captains of the respective squads. McGovern, who has 154 career starts, will lead the Red team that features returning starters Tucker Bradley (RF), Aaron Schunk (3B), Tucker Maxwell (CF), and Austin Biggar (C). Curry, who has 107 career starts and 21 home runs, directs the Black team. Their lineup features a handful of returning starters in Cam Shepherd (SS), LJ Talley (INF), Mitchell Webb (Utility), Will Proctor (2B) and Adam Sasser (1B).

Georgia’s Ike Cousins baseball coach Scott Stricklin, now in his fifth season at the helm, said he’s looking forward to very spirited competition.
“Our fall workouts went really well, and the guys got better each day,” said Stricklin. “We are very happy as a staff based on what we’ve seen. Now it’s time for the Fall World Series, and the guys get to put on different uniforms, be in different dugouts and compete against each other.”

Assistant coach Scott Daeley will be in the Black team dugout and volunteer coach Pete Hughes will be in the Red team dugout. Assistant coach Sean Kenny will oversee the pitchers from both teams.
