The Georgia baseball team is on the road in Statesboro, GA for a 3-game series versus Georgia Southern, starting today at 6:30 p.m. ET.

Georgia’s Ike Cousins head baseball coach Scott Stricklin announced that the Bulldogs (1-3) will employ the same rotation for this series as last weekend. Georgia will go with sophomore left-hander Kevin Smith on Friday, freshman right-hander Tony Locey on Saturday and junior right-hander Chase Adkins on Sunday.

Here’s a few tidbits regarding the series with the Eagles who are 2-2 on the year:

Georgia leads the all-time series with Ga. Southern 49-35-1 in records dating back to 1950. Georgia opened the 2016 season by taking two of three from the Eagles in Athens (W 4-1, L 5-3 in 10, W 5-1) while the Eagles swept the Bulldogs in 2015, winning three one-run games (4-3, 1-0 & 4-3). Sophomore Kevin Smith earned a 5-1 win over the Eagles in his collegiate debut last year (7 IP, 2H, 1R, 2BB, 7K).

The fathers of Georgia freshmen SS Cam Shepherd and RHP Christian Ryder played collegiately at Ga. Southern and were teammates in 1987. Ryder’s dad, Scott, was an 11-game winner for the Eagles’ 1990 squad that advanced to the College World Series while Mike Shepherd was an All-Conference outfielder from 1985-87. This season, Shepherd has made four starts while Ryder has made two relief appearances.

Fifteen Bulldogs made their debut this past weekend in the College of Charleston series including 12 freshmen. Georgia started five freshmen on Opening Day (Will Proctor-2B, Aaron Schunk-3B, Cam Shepherd-SS, Tucker Maxwell-CF, Tucker Bradley-LF), the largest group since 2009 when five started. Seven of the 12 Bulldog freshmen saw action on the mound against the Cougars including Saturday starter Tony Locey. Schunk and Bradley also have pitched in relief. Proctor and Maxwell hit their first career home runs this past Tuesday at Mercer.
