BASEBALL: Ryan Lawlor Drafted by the Braves

[su_spacer size=”20″] Georgia pitcher Ryan Lawlor has been selected by the Atlanta Braves in the eighth round of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft.
[su_spacer size=”40″] As a junior in 2015, Lawlor posted a 5-7 record and 3.67 ERA in 14 appearances, all starts. He pitched 73.2 innings with 84 strikeouts, both team-highs, and walked only 33. Lawlor, a 6-1, 180-pound native of Savannah, Ga., registered wins over No. 11 Florida State, Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky and Eastern Illinois this past season for the Bulldogs. In his two-year Bulldog career, he is 9-13 with a 3.96 ERA in 28 games, all starts.
[su_spacer size=”40″] The MLB draft began with the first two rounds Monday. Tuesday’s schedule features rounds three through 10 and concludes Wednesday with rounds 11 through 40. The signing deadline for underclassmen selected in the 2015 draft is July 15. Below is a link to follow the draft:

[su_spacer size=”40″] Georgia has had a string of 42 straight seasons with at least one player signing a professional contract. A total of 37 former Bulldogs have reached the Major Leagues.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Also earlier Tuesday, a pair of Bulldog signees were selected in the draft. Pitcher Dakota Chalmers (North Forsyth HS, Gainesville, Ga.) was a third round pick of Oakland while outfielder Chad Smith (South Gwinnett HS, Snellville, Ga.) was a fifth round selection of Texas.
