ATHENS—–Georgia pitcher Ryan Webb has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Webb, a 6-1, 199-pound left-hander from Roswell, Ga., notched his first career victory this past Sunday as Georgia completed an sweep of South Carolina. He fired six scoreless innings as part of a combined four-hit shutout of the Gamecocks. Webb stuck out a career-high seven and allowed just two hits in Georgia’s 3-0 win. For the year, Webb is 1-1 with a team-best 2.88 ERA and one save. He has made eight appearances including three starts. Webb is the first freshman honored by the league this year and first for Georgia since shortstop Cam Shepherd in April of 2017.

The Bulldogs (18-6, 5-1 SEC) have won six in a row and 11 of their past 12 games. Up next, Georgia plays host to Charleston Southern Tuesday at 6 p.m. The Bulldogs resume SEC play when Texas A&M comes to town for a series starting Thursday at 7 p.m.

In Collegiate Baseball’s weekly top 30 poll, the Bulldogs made their debut at No. 23 while the Aggies (19-7, 2-4 SEC) are No. 27. Georgia is No. 24 in the USA Today Coaches poll while the Aggies are No. 15. In two other top 25 polls, Georgia is not ranked while Texas A&M checks in at No. 16 by Baseball America and No. 17 by D1Baseball.
