[su_spacer size=”20″] Georgia (21-23, 6-14 SEC) returns to action Friday at Foley Field for the start of an SEC series with nationally ranked Florida (33-12, 13-8 SEC). In Florida’s last visit to Athens in 2013, the Bulldogs claimed the series 2-1 while the Gators swept the 2014 series in Gainesville. The Bulldogs and Gators do not have any midweek games due to final exams.
[su_spacer size=”40″] On Saturday, Georgia will honor the 1990 NCAA Champion Bulldogs as they celebrate the 25th year anniversary of winning the SEC’sfirst national title in baseball. It will part of Lettermen’s Weekend where Bulldogs from as far back as the 1940s are slated to attend including close to 20 members of the 1990 champions.
[su_spacer size=”40″] The Bulldogs went 1-3 this past week, posting a two-hit shutout in a 7-0 win over Clemson in Athens and then were swept in an SEC road series by Auburn, managing just four runs. Meanwhile, Florida dropped a series to Kentucky in Gainesville this past weekend. The top Bulldog hitter in the Auburn series was freshman left fielder Keegan McGovern as he batted .545 (6-for-11). He leads the team in batting in SEC games at .333 and ranks second overall on the club at .302 in 38 games this year. McGovern has hit safely in the past five games.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Bulldog sophomore centerfielder Stephen Wrenn (.315-5-22) has reached base safely in 42 of 44 games this season. He is one of the top defensive centerfielders in the SEC and ranks among the SEC leaders in stolen bases with 21. In SEC action, Wrenn is batting .271-3-7 with 10 stolen bases. Georgia’s top pitcher this season has been two-way standout senior Jared Walsh. He is 4-1 with a 2.66 ERA in 12 appearances including seven starts while batting .288-2-19 in 33 games including 31 starts as either a DH/1B/OF. Last week on the mound, Walsh made two appearances including one start and went 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA in 5.1 innings. He got the win over Clemson to help the Bulldogs sweep the season series for the first time since 2009, and he pitched in relief at Auburn. Senior Jared Cheek (2-2, 3.00 ERA, 5 Saves) ranks among the SEC leaders with 21 appearances.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Georgia is batting .266 with 31 home runs with 53 stolen bases. The Bulldogs have a 4.22 ERA and are fielding .971. Georgia is hopeful of getting sophomore ace Robert Tyler (1-0, 3.86 ERA, 14 IP, 22K, 6 BB) back for the Florida series. He has been out since late February with a forearm strain. He made his first SEC road trip last week to Auburn but did not pitch in the series.
