Georgia vs Florida baseball notes – The Bulldogs (20-18 overall, 6-9 SEC), under the direction of coach Scott Stricklin, continue a potential 22-game stretch against ranked opponents (which would be a school record) as it heads to No. 2 Florida for an SEC series starting Thursday at 7:30 p.m. (ESPNU).
Georgia has played 12 straight games versus ranked teams, going 5-7. The toughest stretch in school history came in 2005 when the Bulldogs had 15 straight games against ranked teams, going 6-8 with one rainout. The entire UF series will be televised (ESPNU/SECN/ESPN2).
Overall, the Bulldogs are 6-9 against the Top 25 this year. Last weekend in the SEC, Georgia knocked off No. 2 South Carolina two games to one. It marked the highest ranked series win since 2001 when the Bulldogs upset No. 2 LSU two games to one (all three games went 11 innings!). This past Tuesday, Georgia traveled to No. 22 Clemson, and the Tigers blanked the Bulldogs 12-0 on a combined three-hitter.
One of the most bizarre Bulldog streaks of the season continued this past weekend as Georgia extended its stretch of consecutive solo home runs to 20. The Bulldogs crushed six home runs against the Gamecocks, including four in Sunday’s series-clinching 5-3 win. The Bulldogs have hit 29 home runs for the year (25 solo), and the last time a runner was on base for a home run came on March 8 in the 13th game of the season. Freshman catcher Michael Curry delivered a pinch-hit, three-run blast against Charlotte at BB&T Ballpark. Currently, Curry is tied for the team-high with six home runs with five of those solo shots. He is heating up after batting .412 (7-for-17) last week.
Georgia is batting .254 with an ERA of 4.55 and fielding .966 In SEC action, the Bulldogs are hitting .279 with a 5.71 ERA and fielding .958. Georgia’s top hitter is junior RF/C Skyler Weber (.315-2-22) and junior CF Stephen Wrenn (.284-3-19). Curry (.260-6-18) and senior DH/1B Daniel Nichols (.250-6-16) lead the club in home runs while junior LF Keegan McGovern (.271-5-26) is tops in RBI and among the league leaders in walks with 31. Curry earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors on Monday.
In the SEC, Georgia’s rotation against #2 USC featured RHP Robert Tyler (3-3, 2.77 ERA), junior LHP Connor Jones (5-2, 5.08 ERA) and sophomore LHP Bo Tucker (3-3, 3.37 ERA). The Bulldogs got stellar relief from senior RHP Heath Holder (0-2, 3.15 ERA) who leads the SEC in opponent’s batting average at .161, and junior RHP Drew Moody(1-3, 5.02 ERA). Moody got the win in Sunday’s series-clinching victory over the Gamecocks.  The rotation for the UF series will be Tyler, Jones and TBA.
About The Gators

Puk (2-2, 3.41 ERA), junior Logan Shore (7-0, 2.50 ERA) and sophomore Alex Faedo (7-1, 3.67 ERA).
