The No. 13th Georgia Lady Bulldogs defeated Ole Miss 62-52 in a top-25 showdown Sunday afternoon in Oxford. Georgia improved to 16-4 overall on the season.

Center, Jenna Staiti recorded a double-double in today’s game. Staiti contributed tremendously to today’s game with 22 points and 11 rebounds.

 

 

 

 

The Lady Bulldogs started out slow offensively, but quickly gained momentum after Staiti hit back-to-back three-pointers to put Georgia in the lead. Both of these three-pointers were made within 24 seconds of each other.

Georgia played both offensive and defensive sides of the ball well and pulled ahead with a 21-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Bulldogs had a stellar second quarter and went into the half with a 13 point lead (33-20).
Throughout the third quarter, the Bulldogs remained hot and headed into the fourth quarter leading 52-39.

 

 

 

 

Ole Miss attempted to make a run for the lead in the fourth quarter by getting within 6 points of the Bulldogs, bringing the score to 56-50, but Georgia was able to stretch out their lead with just over 3 minutes left in the game to pull away from the Rebels, leading to a victory.

Coach Joni Taylor was impressed by the way her team performed today. “I’m very proud of our toughness and how we played.”

Sarah Ashlee Barker and Que Morrison also had a huge impact on the Lady Bulldog’s win today. Barker had 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Morrison scored 10 points and also had 5 assist in today’s game.

The game-changer was the outstanding performance of Staiti. Not only was Staiti important on the offensive side of the court, but she also put up a great fight on the defensive as well.

This win moves Georgia’s record to 5-3 in the SEC. The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action in Athens Thursday night against Vanderbilt at 7:00 P.M. in Stegman Coliseum.
