UGA Breaks 3-Game Losing Streak

The No.21-ranked Georgia Lady Bulldogs secured a huge 74-49 victory in Athens against the Missouri Lady Tigers Thursday night at Stegman Coliseum.

A stellar performance from Jenna Staiti helped propel this Georgia Basketball team over Missouri. Staiti finished the night with 22 points and was the player of the game.

 

 

 

 

The win tonight puts Georgia at 18-7 on the season and 7-6 in SEC play. Missouri drops to 16-10 and 5-8.

Georgia shot 50% from the field tonight, whereas last game they were only shooting about 30% from the field.

Head Coach Joni Taylor says,” It feels good to win.” The Lady Bulldogs finally snapped a 3-game losing streak in SEC play with the win tonight.

Offensively, Georgia started off hot tonight and sprinted to a 7-0 lead against the Lady Tigers. Towards the end of the first quarter, the defense gained momentum and was able to hold Missouri 16-10 heading into the second quarter.

Throughout the second quarter, the Lady Bulldogs continued to play lights out on the offensive side of the ball and continued to extend their lead. Georgia entered half time ahead 34-23.

During the third quarter, Jenna Staiti and Reigan Richardson turned the pace up on the court, contributing to much of the success their team saw in the quarter. The effort from these two players took the Lady Bulldogs into the final quarter ahead 60-41.

In the fourth quarter, Georgia’s defense only allowed Missouri to score a total of 8 points. Resulting in a win for the Lady Bulldogs.

“It’s nice to get back on the winning side of things, it just gives us the momentum we need to go on the road. Auburn is a real tuff, we are gonna buckle in and start watching film tonight and prepare our team tomorrow,” said Coach Taylor.

The Lady Bulldogs enter into a 2 game road series. Up first, Auburn on Sunday, February 20th at 12:00 p.m.
