UGA men’s basketball student-athletes Anthony Edwards, Rayshaun Hammonds, and Jordan Harris during the Kentucky postgame press conference on Tuesday, January 7, 2020

UGA men’s basketball student-athletes Anthony Edwards, Rayshaun Hammonds, and Jordan Harris field questions after the Bulldogs drop their first home game of the season in their Southeastern Conference opener versus the Kentucky Wildcats, 78-69, on Tuesday night.

#5 | Anthony Edwards | Freshman

On what went wrong after your dunk before the end of the first half…

“We didn’t play with toughness in the second half. I played bad defense, we all played bad defense.”

On Rayshaun Hammonds fouling out…

“Rayshaun is a key player to the team so when he fouls out, it brings him down one notch because we need him on the floor. He’s the best rebounder we got and in the SEC. When he’s out, we can’t really do anything.”

On what fans look forward to moving forward…

“They can look forward to us being more of a team, playing better team defense, and winning more games. We took a tough loss today but we are going to come back and be better. Talk, be more tough.”

#2 | Jordan Harris | Senior

On Kentucky’s change in game plan in the second half…

“I think for them it helped them offensively. The first half, we were holding on defensively. We got weaker as the game went on and that opened the floor them by having three guards out there.”

On the atmosphere of tonight’s game…

“Not winning doesn’t really take away from the atmosphere. We had a fantastic crowd. This is the best environment I have played in here, and I am a senior. I want to thank the fans personally from the team. They really showed up and had an impact tonight. We just let the game slip away. We are going back to work tomorrow and just try to be better moving forward.”

#20 | Rayshaun Hammonds | Junior

On if the team felt like they got worn down by Kentucky…

“I would not say that. But, we were not talking as a team, including me. All the guards and the big mans were not talking. We just got to get better with doing that. We need to lock in from now on. “

On having 10 players playing for the first time in SEC play…

“It was a learning experience. But, they have been playing in it. We were not talking as a team. We have to pick it up! You know you learn from your mistakes. We have 17 more games left in the SEC. We have to learn from that now.”

On taking the positives out of this game…

“It showed that we can play with other SEC teams. It is a learning experience. We are going to have to move on. We play Auburn Saturday and we are going to have to move on.”
