Yante Maten dunks against Georgia Tech – December 19, 2017

The Georgia basketball team put on a dominant showing winning by a score of 65-46, as they played in what seemed to be the precursor for the Bulldogs matchup against the Crimson Tide in the College Football Playoff Final.

The Bulldogs started off fast as they took the lead at the 19:32 mark and they would only build on it for the remainder of the game. The Bulldogs seemed to be in complete control in all facets of the game and under the direction of senior Yante Maten, the team coasted to victory.

Maten finished the night off with a double-double leading the team in points, with 26, and in rebounds, with 11. Maten was an unstoppable force that the Crimson Tide could not find an answer for in the contest. Maten was also deadly from three as he helped lead the Bulldogs in this category as he finished the night 4-7 (57%). Although Maten was the star for the Bulldogs on the night, it was the production from the rest of the team that was truly the difference in the game.

Alabama’s leading scorer was Collin Sexton with 23, but there was a steep drop off after Sexton in comparison from Maten to the rest of the Bulldogs. The Crimson Tide only had 6 players score in the game whereas the Bulldogs had 9 players score and the Bulldogs had much more success. This distribution of scoring helped the Bulldogs keep the Tide behind for the whole game and ultimately led to victory.

The Crimson Tide clearly struggled to shoot the ball as they finished 17-57 (29.8%) from the field in comparison to the Bulldogs 20-58 (34.9%), but another huge determining factor in the game was the domination on the boards by this Georgia team. The Bulldogs out-rebounded the Crimson Tide 49-31, which led to the Bulldogs leaving Stegeman with an impressive SEC victory.

The Georgia men’s basketball team will return to action at the University of Missouri in Columbia, at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10.
