Hoops Report: Can Georgia Break out of this ‘Groundhog Day’ Rut Versus Florida?

Welcome to the Bulldawg Illustrated Hoops Report. It’s like Groundhog Day. The Dawgs keep getting leads, going cold, and losing at the end. Wash, rinse, repeat. Luckily, we’ve still got over a third of the season to go and the Dawgs aren’t out of this at all.

The Dawgs are 3-5 in the SEC. We’ve got ten games left and then the SEC Tournament. I think 9-9 would probably get the Dawgs in. If we go 10-8, it’s a definite when you look at our remaining schedule. However, the winning must start Tuesday night against the Gators.

The Gators swept the Dawgs the last two years so we have the revenge factor working for us. I’ve seen the Gators play on two occasions and they lost both games. So I know they’re beatable. The problem is their offense is usually on and they can score at will when that happens. They’ve scored over 80 points ten different times this year.

The Dawgs are having huge issues on the offensive end. These issues have plagued us all year and will continue to until we can get three people scoring every night. Right now, it’s Yante Maten and that’s it. No one else is consistently putting the ball in the basket. This has to change quickly because we’ve got ten SEC games left to pen our resume. If we get two more people to step and avoid the late game turnovers, we’re competitive. I’d love to think Jordan Harris and either Rayshawn Hammonds, Turtle Jackson, or Derek Ogbeide would be those guys. I can promise you this. If we can’t score at least 70 against the Gators, it’s going to be tough to win.

Going 6-4 is not out of the question. While the SEC is much improved from top to bottom, it also doesn’t have a team or two no one can beat. Vegas seems to think Auburn and Florida are the best teams in the SEC. But they’d only be a two or three point favorites in Athens if we played them today. So getting to ten wins is very possible. We aren’t talking about huge upsets. However, we are talking about getting hot at the right time. And that time is now. It starts Tuesday night and we need a full house. Head on down to the Stegasaurus and turn up the volume. We don’t want to see the same movie again. Go Dawgs!!!
