Welcome to the Bulldawg Illustrated Hoops Report: Georgia vs. Florida. It’s like trying to make chicken salad out of chicken scratch.

After another tough road loss to a good team, the Dawgs now face the Gators at home. The math is simple. The Dawgs need to go 10-8 in the SEC to make the Big Dance. We’re 4-6 right now. So we’ve got to go at least 6-2 in our last eight with Florida, Kentucky, Arkansas and a number of other quality opponents along the way. However, quality opponents would equal quality wins.

Unfortunately, we don’t have many of those. At this point, I can only think of one game where the Dawgs played really well and that was the first game of the SEC schedule versus Auburn. You could say that Georgia played well against Ole Miss based on the score, but they really stunk it up offensively; so, I think that was more to do with them playing badly than the Bulldogs playing good. Beating UF would be a quality win.

For the first time this year it seems, the Dawgs are in a good position. Florida just routed UK at home by 22 on Saturday night. The Dawgs lost another one-possession road game. While the Dawgs state of mind and team morale has got to be shaky right now, college basketball is fickle. You can be riding high one day and then knocked off that high-horse a few days later. The Dawgs aren’t scared of UF. We fought them tooth and nail in Gainesville and beat them for 59 and a half minutes. Then we decided to throw it away literally. Hopefully, we still have a bad taste in our mouths about that. I know I do.

Luckily for the Dawgs, college basketball is a long grind. We’re just past the halfway mark of the conference schedule, and that means that there are several huge opportunities left. But the Bulldogs have to go 6-2 to close out the regular season. That’s possible; however, there’s no doubt Georgia must be able to close and finish out games. A home crowd helps tremendously with that. So let’s show up and rock the Stegesaurus Tuesday night at 7 pm. These guys need some home crowd love. Believe or not, we may even get a call or two go our way. Wait a minute, now I’m just dreaming. But I’ll still be there and hope to see you as well. Go Dawgs!
