The Lady Dogs were in control from the start to the very end in their 78-65 victory over the Arkansas Razorbacks and Caliya Robinson’s double-double was a huge determining factor in the game.

Robinson was at the top in multiple categories for the Lady Dogs including scoring with 21, rebounds with 11, blocks with 5, assists with 5, and 0 turnovers. Robinson was absolutely lethal from the field as she only missed 3 shots and shot 75% from the field, which included an attempted buzzer-beater from around half court. Robinson’s defensive efforts and ability to keep the opposition from having second chance opportunities is notable, as well, as it kept the Razorbacks just behind for the entire night.

Robinson was not alone in her efforts as it seemed to be a night dominated by outstanding performances by the team’s upperclassmen. Mackenzie Engram was dominant in her scoring on the night as she led the team and ended her night with 21 points.

Haley Clark’s performance was also notable even though she was only able to total one point on the night. Clark ended her night with 10 rebounds, which is an indicator of outstanding effort on her part as a guard. Coach Joni Taylor mentioned that “that is just Haley Clark” and the team does not run without her.

The play of the Lady Dogs freshman starters and bench players was also outstanding as well and shows a very bright future for this team. The standout freshmen on the night came off the bench as both Gabby Connally and Malury Bates had great nights in very different ways.

Connally finished the night as the Lady Dogs third-leading scorer with 13 points while also having four assists and two rebounds. On the other hand, Bates only scored two points, but she did a great job of rebounding the basketball as she finished the night with 5 rebounds.

The most surprising stat from this evening’s contest was the Lady Dogs lack of free throws. They were not awarded a free throw until the last 2:03, but from that point on, they earned 12 and they converted 10 of them. Although free throws were hard to come by, it has to be encouraging that they were able to convert them and close out the game.

The Bulldogs may have let this one get closer than they wanted but this victory should help them build momentum as they head into their matchup against the No. 17 Texas A&M Aggies.
