Opening Tip

The Lady Bulldogs are currently ranked 17th in the Associated Press Poll, 18th in the USA Today Coaches Poll and were the No. 12 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament committee’s latest reveal.

The loss against LSU Thursday evening in Baton Rouge broke a seven-game win streak for the Lady Bulldogs. It was the team’s longest stretch of consecutive SEC victories since the 1999-2000 season — the same year Georgia won the SEC Championship.

Senior forward Mackenzie Engram reached the 1,000-point total for her career with a basket in the second quarter against LSU. Engram is now one of 38 Lady Bulldogs to score 1,000 career points.

Junior forward Caliya Robinson has been named one of 10 finalists for the 2018 Katrina McClain Award, which is given to the nation’s top power forward. Robinson leads the SEC and is fifth nationally in blocked shots with 75 (3.4 per game) this season and has recorded four double-doubles in the last seven games.

Freshman guard Que Morrison has scored in double figures in two of the last three games. Her 17 points against then-No. 11 Missouri and 15 at LSU were both team highs. Morrison is part of a class of newcomers that ranks three, four and five respectively among Georgia’s top scorers this season.
Georgia leads the SEC (seventh nationally) in field-goal percentage defense, holding teams to just 34.6 percent from the field. In league games only, teams are shooting just 23.3 percent from 3-point range against the Lady Bulldogs — the best mark in the league. In addition, Georgia held Vanderbilt, Kentucky and Missouri all to their season lows in both scoring and field-goal percentage this season.

The Lady Bulldogs have won six of the last eight meetings between the two programs. Georgia is 17-1 against Ole Miss in Athens, with the only loss coming in a 66-65 defeat in 2010.
