Equestrian – Georgia vs. Tennessee-Martin
Georgia Equestrian

The Georgia equestrian team resumes competition this weekend saddling up and traveling on the road to Waco, Texas to take on the 2nd ranked Baylor Bears on Saturday, January 28th at 12 p.m. ET.

“This is an exciting part of the season,” head coach Meghan Boenig said. “We’re fortunate to have had some good time to prepare for this. Mentally, these ladies have come back very strong and are ready to put together a championship run which starts now at Baylor.”

Georgia holds a 10-1 overall record over Baylor. The Bulldogs’ lone loss to the Bears came in the last meeting between the teams on Oct. 25, 2014, when Georgia dropped a 13-6 to Baylor in Waco.

Georgia finished the fall ranked fourth in the nation with a 4-3 record, including a 1-2 mark against Southeastern Conference opponents. The Bulldogs went 3-0 at home, improving its all-time home record to 62-6. Georgia defeated two ranked opponents so far this season, including an upset victory over then-No. 2 Auburn and a 17-2 defeat of then-No. 10 New Mexico State.

Scouting Baylor: Baylor is 6-2 on the season and will face TCU on Thursday, January 26, before welcoming the Bulldogs to Waco on Saturday.

Georgia will be the second SEC opponent Baylor faces this season after South Carolina handed the Bears a 12-6 loss in Columbia, S.C.

Georgia and Baylor have competed against four common opponents this season. The Bulldogs and Bears picked up wins against New Mexico State and South Dakota State, but were both defeated by South Carolina and Oklahoma State.

Two Bears have been recognized by the NCEA as Riders of the Month so far this season. Kaylee Mellott (Horsemanship) received the award in September, while Georgia Smith (Reining) was given the award in November. Additionally, Charlotte Green (Horsemanship) was named Rider of the Month by the Big 12 Conference in October.
