The University of Georgia equestrian team travels to South Carolina to face the Gamecocks on Saturday, Feb. 6. The matchup is slated to begin at 1 p.m. and will take place at the One Wood Farm in Blythewood, S.C.
Georgia enters competition ranked No. 2 in the most recent NCEA Coach’s Poll and South Carolina came in at eighth. Georgia looks to improve their record as they currently sit at 6-1 (3-1 SEC) on the season. South Carolina holds a record of 3-5 (0-3 SEC).
“What a great opportunity to build on our competition last weekend against Texas A&M and put it to another incredible SEC competitor in South Carolina,” Georgia head coach Meghan Boenig said. “This is incredible prep for our post season- being able to think on our feet and be repeatable and consistent in our rides. We really can’t wait out go out and show that continued path to success at South Carolina.”
The teams have previously met this year in Bishop, Ga. when the Bulldogs defeated the Gamecocks 13-5. During that meet, ten Georgia riders scored their season highs, including Addy Cord (Equitation on the Flat), Liza Finsness (Equitation on the Flat and Equitation Over Fences), Leylan Gleeson (Equitation on the Flat), Rachel Kolb (Horsemanship), Alex Maracic (Equitation Over Fences), Meg O’Mara (Equitation on the Flat), Maddie Newman (Equitation on the Flat), Heather Schmidt (Horsemanship), Claudia Spreng (Reining), and Graysen Stroud (Reining).
