Georgia resumes SEC play Friday with a three-game series at Tennessee with the entire series available on SEC Network+ and the Bulldog Sports Network from IMG.Game times for the UT series are 6 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

The Bulldogs (11-15, 1-5 SEC) and Volunteers (14-8, 0-6 SEC) are looking for their first league series win heading in to week three of SEC action. This year, Georgia dropped a home series to No. 16 Auburn 2-1 and was swept at No. 6 LSU. After a 13-2 start, Tennessee was ranked as high as No. 24, but then the Volunteers were swept at home by No. 7 South Carolina and then by Miss. State in Starkville. The Bulldogs and Volunteers enter Friday night’s game on a positive note after convincing midweek wins. Georgia posted a season-high 12 runs on 16 hits to defeat Savannah State 12-3 while The Volunteers blanked Tennessee Tech 6-0.

Bulldog Tidbits:

*In records dating back to 1950, UT leads the series with Georgia 114-100. The teams met in Athens to close the 2016 regular season, and both clinched spots in the SEC Tournament. The Bulldogs earned their spot with a 10-8 win in game one, and then the Vols claimed the series with a pair of comeback wins (5-4 and 5-2). It marked the first series win for UT since 2010 as the Bulldogs had won 10 of the past 13 meetings including a sweep in Knoxville in 2015.

*The Bulldogs, under the direction of Ike Cousins head baseball coach Scott Stricklin, are batting .271 with 22 home runs while they have an ERA of 4.92 and a fielding percentage of .953. Georgia’s lineup usually features five freshmen and at times as many as seven. Against No. 16 Auburn last weekend, Georgia pitched extremely well, posting a 1.33 ERA (4 ER) while batting .222 with a .975 fielding percentage. This was much improved after opening league play at #6 LSU, where Georgia batted .291 but posted an 11.62 ERA and fielded .950.

*Georgia junior RHP Chase Adkins (3-2, 2.82 ERA) has been the most consistent starter this season. In six Sunday starts, he has tallied 38.1 innings (6th in SEC) including one complete game shutout. Opponents are batting .213 against him. He had career-high eight strikeouts over eight innings in a no decision versus No. 16 Auburn this past Sunday. Senior LHP Andrew Gist (1-1, 3.51 ERA) also pitched extremely well and wound up with a no decision versus the Tigers. Gist started last Friday and struck out seven over seven innings, allowing one unearned run. Sophomore LHP Kevin Smith (1-3, 6.62 ERA), who missed his turn in the first two SEC series due to a sore back, returns to the rotation for the UT series. Smith was Georgia’s Opening Day starter. He did not travel to #6 LSU but has pitched twice in relief since then. Gist will start on Friday followed by Smith on Saturday and Adkins on Sunday. Freshman RHP Tony Locey (2-3 6.85 ERA), who has started the past six Saturdays, will move to the bullpen for the UT series.

*Georgia junior LF/1B Keegan McGovern (.363-2-9; .480 OB%) has hit safely in 13 of the past 15 games. In SEC action, he leads the conference at .500-1-2, going 9-for-18 with six walks and an SEC-best .654 OB%.

*Bulldog sophomore DH/C Michael Curry (.330-5-28) ranks among the SEC leaders with 28 RBI and five home runs. He has belted 16 career home runs. During his current career-best 12-game hitting streak, he’s batting .426 (20-for-47). In SEC action, Curry’s average is .333 (8-for-24) with a pair of home runs and 11 RBI.

*Georgia freshman SS Cam Shepherd (.312-1-13) has a career-best 11-game hitting streak. In SEC action, Shepherd is batting .385 (10-for-26) with two RBI. He batted .538 in the series at #6 LSU. The top Bulldog freshman hitter in the Auburn series was 3B Aaron Schunk (.292-1-14) as he batted .417 (5-for-12) with two RBI. Also of note, freshman INF Will Proctor is batting .368-1-3 in SEC games.
